Exploring Transportation in Europe Series

Lauren Hilliard, a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis, is currently on a two-month European study tour, documenting her transportation experiences. We are excited to announce that she will be sharing her transportation experiences on this site as she travels across Europe! Lauren has a particular interest in the walking, bicycling, and regional transit. She will post articles as part of a series entitled “Exploring Transportation in Europe.” The articles that she posts as a part of this series will be preceded with “ETE” in the article title. Coincidentally, été is the French word for “summer,” which I thought was appropriate considering that France and Switzerland are countries she will be visiting this summer. ETE also stands for European Train Enthusiasts.

Other countries Lauren will visit include Germany, Denmark, and the UK. She will also be a part of a multi-modal transportation group research project in Freiburg, Germany.

In addition to the articles written on this site, Lauren has started documenting her journey across Europe on a blog entitled In, On, Up, Under: Transportation in Europe. Please visit her blog to keep up with the latest on her travels and to view her photographs. The photo above is a picture of Zurich, Switzerland shot by Lauren. Danke schön, Lauren!

What a nice article, as well as pictures. I’ve traveled quite a bit in Switzerland as well as France. I’m also a member of the Freiburg/Madison, WI. sister city group, so I’m looking forward to future articles Thanks

Hi Kendall, thanks for stopping by. I’ve shared your message with Lauren and I’m sure she really appreciates your comment. By the way, I loved the limited time I’ve spent in Madison. It’s a great city.
